Hunting abroad · Cape buffalo and big game along the Zambezi
Zimbabwe
One of Africa's oldest and best organised hunting cultures, with a strong buffalo population.
The training and examination of professional hunters in Zimbabwe is among the strictest on the continent. For the guest this means a dependable standard of guiding, including on the more demanding species.
The main areas are the Zambezi valley, the Matetsi region near Victoria Falls, and the Save Valley Conservancy in the south-east. All three are large and unfenced.
Cape buffalo, leopard and elephant may be hunted, along with a wide range of plains game: kudu, oryx, zebra, wildebeest, impala and warthog. Big game licences are subject to quota and are normally booked a year in advance.
Plains game hunts are far more flexible to arrange and suit accompanying non-hunters too, as Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park are close by.
