Hunting abroad · Muskox and caribou
Greenland
Muskox hunting by dog sledge in winter, or combined muskox and caribou hunting in summer.
Dog-sledge muskox hunt: 19 March to 4 April, groups of maximum 6 hunters. Guests fly from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq (about 4.5 hours), then travel 4–5 hours to the area by off-road vehicle and dog sledge. Accommodation is in insulated heated tents, in the hunting cabin (since 2002) or in the house built in 2009.
Because hunting is done by dog sledge it is not strenuous. Temperatures are typically between −15 and −25 °C; a very good down sleeping bag and warm layered clothing are essential.
Summer combined hunt: 18–30 August in three groups (C1: 18–23, C2: 22–26, C3: 25–30 August), maximum 7 hunters per date. Hunting is on foot and by boat along the southern shore of the fjord. The terrain is hilly and relatively wet; older hunters and those in weaker condition can also hunt successfully.
Since the summer of 2007 muskox can be hunted together with caribou. Salmon and cod live in the fjord, and trout fishing in the streams is excellent.
