Hunting in Hungary · 15 August – 31 January
Wild duck and dove
Duck flight at dawn, dove shooting in the afternoon – a full, varied day for lovers of the shotgun.
Anas platyrhynchos
Under Hungarian law wild duck may be shot from 15 August to 31 January. Reared ducks are not subject to a closed season and may be hunted all year round.
Because duck and collared dove (15 August – 31 January) can be combined, many hunters travel here from abroad.
A typical day: after the duck flight at dawn the dove flight begins immediately, always shorter than in the afternoon. A generous breakfast and a few hours of siesta follow, then in the early afternoon the guns return to the sunflower fields, where far more doves arrive. When the dove shooting ends, the evening duck flight starts on the lakes and lasts until dark.
