Mouflon

This is a settled game native to Corsica and Sardinia. It has enriched the palette of Hungarian huntable species since the 19th century, when it began to spread here from the direction of Nyitra. It adapted well to our climate; its occurrence is influenced by climate and relief.

Its most important areas are the Mátra, Börzsöny, Bükk, Pilis, Bakony and Vértes mountains, and it also appears in parts of the Somogy hills.

The main hunting season is the rut in November. Hunting is usually done by long, often day-long stalking, and very rarely from a high seat – the latter is seldom successful because the animal does not keep to its trails.
