Wild boar

Wild boar in Hungary is normally heavier than other populations in Europe.

Sus scrofa

It can be found all over Hungary and is well established even on the Great Plain, where it regularly lives in marshes and floodplains. Today it is the most numerous cloven-hoofed game of our forests.

Guests can come for individual hunting (stalking or high seat) throughout the year, but the season of the most exciting and spectacular driven hunts starts in November. The two finest months are December and January, when boar can ideally be taken in snow.

The two known types of driven hunting are the drive without dogs, where cull deer may also be shot, and the drive with well-trained dogs, where only wild boar may be taken.

In several parts of the country enclosures of 200–1,000 hectares have been established for safer hunts and larger bags, where the daily bag can reach 100–150 head depending on the size and shooting ability of the group.
