Fallow buck

The fallow bucks of Gúth hold the first and second places of the world list.

Dama dama

This game was once native to Europe, died out in the Ice Age and was resettled later; it adapted very well to our climate. The species is particular: during its rut it can be hunted at any part of the day, when the bucks give far-carrying groaning calls.

It is most widespread in the following areas: around Gyulaj and Tamási in Transdanubia, around Gúth in Hajdú-Bihar county on the Great Plain, around Gyula in Békés county and in Bács-Kiskun county.

Fallow deer were first settled in Transdanubia; thanks to successful game management the world-famous Gúth stock developed from those animals.

The main season is the October rut, which begins at the start of October in Transdanubia and a little later on the Great Plain. Hunting is done from a carriage or by stalking, more rarely from a high seat.
